Why Periscope?

What is Periscope? It's an AMAZING social media channel, where individuals can do live "scopes" or broadcasts. Teachers have taken Periscope by storm, and there are some amazing professional development opportunities. Teachers are sharing a variety of tips and resources, including organization, literacy, student engagement, etc.

Why am I so excited about Periscope? I have learned so much from listening to teachers' scopes, and I'm not even a teacher! I also LOVE the platform. It's so interactive and fun. You can give the "scoper" hearts by tapping on your screen, and you are also able to comment and ask questions. Nothing beats hearing some of your favorite bloggers talk and getting to "chat" with them in real time.

From an SLP's point of view--I have to admit, things can get a little lonely for those of us working in the schools. I'm the only SLP in my building. We have monthly SLP meetings and chat from time to time, but I was looking for more. I think Periscope is a great way to get more connected with other SLP's and hear their amazing ideas.

There were a handful of SLP's who scoped this summer, and it was incredibly fun and helpful. Some SLP's have started scoping this week (like Hallie from Speech Time Fun @speechtimefun!), and I would love to see it pick up again. If you're inspired to give a scope, please let me know! I'd love to hop in! :)

P.S. If you're new to Periscope, download the app and sign up! You won't regret it!
